Car Insurance HUMMER (Car Insurance). Is a turbo connected to the air intake? Is a turbo connected to the air intake? I know it connects to where the header is but where is the air pressure going to Yes. The compressor turbine on a turbocharger is directly responsible for drawing in air to the engine. A turbocharger is a set of turbines connected to by a driveshaft. The exhaust turbine is driven by the exhaust gasses coming out of the engine, and as this turbine begins to spin it drives the compressor turbine via the driveshaft running through the body of the turbocharger unit. When the engine produces a lot of exhaust gasses (full throttle operation), the turbo begins to spin at literally tens of thousands of revolutions per minute. This incredible RPM speed is used by the compressor turbine to suck in and compress air going into the engine. Since massive amounts of air are going into the engine, massive amounts come out of the engine, turning the exhaust turbine even faster. This is how boost pressure is built up. The amount of boost generated is limited by a device called a wastegate. This device is a pressure relief valve attached to the exhaust side of the motor, usually before the turbo. When it senses the PSI coming out of the engine start getting above a pre-set limit, the wastegate vents exhaust gas AROUND the turbo so that the amount of boost produced is limited. Boost produced by the compressor turbine can be a dangerous thing to the turbine if the throttle is suddenly closed while the turbo is producing full boost. Backpressure is never a good thing for anything mechanical, so a device called a blowoff valve is used to vent the compressed air, usually just out into the atmosphere (since it's just compressed air and not exhaust gasses this operation is completely harmless). Once the throttle is opened again, or the turbo no longer produces boost, the blowoff valve closes again, sending the compressed air once again to the engine. the pump drive side is mounted in stream with the exhaust manifold. the output side is plumed to the intake air horn. that is where the air typically goes on any engine Yes it is. It is connected to the exhaust and the air intake. it is really complicated to explain everything about how turbo works here but you can try to go howstuffworks.com and read it and watch it with moving schematics. The exhaust flow driver an impeller fan and on the other end of the shaft another impeller fan pushes (pressure more than atmospheric) more air in the cylinders. On my '84 V6 Riveria (most HP for that year) it went in the back of the intake manifold. The more oxygen you get in the cylinders the more HP. Bottom line, it goes under the carb or TBI. Is there any legislation to protect drivers when traffic sign is blocked by trees? Is there any legislation to protect drivers when traffic sign is blocked by trees? Hi all, I drove into a parking control area without seeing the 'parking control area' traffic sign and got a parking fine. The reason is that the traffic sign was blocked by trees and it was at night time. Basically, I was not aware of the area is inside the parking control area because of the blocked traffic sign. Is there any transportation legislation to protect me from the unclear traffic sign? (Note that I am in Brisbane, Australia). Thanks in advance. Block Heater: Do I risk damage for leaving car block heater plugged in through the 50-degree day? Block Heater: Do I risk damage for leaving car block heater plugged in through the 50-degree day? We're currently experiencing a wide variance between day & nighttime temperatures, with overnight temps falling to +/- 25 degrees, and, daytime temps that creep up to +/- 50 degrees. I arrived home in last night's frigid cold, and, plugged in engine (block) warmer, I didn't go anywhere today, and, below-freezing temps remain the forecast for tonight so -- as I've done under similar circumstances in the past, -- I left the heater plugged in without, ever, giving it a thought. However, this afternoon a passing neighbor noticed the plug, and, advised I disconnect it. He told me that "a couple of mechanics" "warned" him that it's bad practice to leave the block heater plugged "when it's this warm." The thermometer only reached 46 today -- and, only briefly. He didn't know what kind damage might occur, so, now I'm wondering. Is what he said correct? If so, I'll unplug during the day Plugging in is very necessary these nights. Believe me -- I would not go to the trouble of dragging that cord out unnecessarily. Obviously, we don't want to waste energy, but, the energy consumed running a block heater for 24 hours is WAY offset by the amount of fuel/energy burned to warm up a frozen vehicle. Frankly, unplugging was not worth the risk of forgetting to replug -- especially, when the "warm" temperature doesn't last more than an hour. I can't imagine what damage could occur from being plugged in at 46 degrees. Or, even if it were 90! An engine, just running normally, runs way hotter than the heat derived from a block heater ...... right?? Help me out here. Am I missing something?? If so, I'll unplug during the day from now on, and, add "Remember to Replug" in To-Do List in my phone! car insurance. Auto parts : > Refrigerant Mitsubishi 2007. Clutch Nissan 2008. Then the light goes out and it runs perfect for a day or two, then that bloody light comes back and it runs like crap again. Im fixing my friends moped, he told me it wouldnt go over 25 mph and i wont even start now. so i took it to my shop assuming that it was just not getting enough gas. I started with draining the tank and cleaning all of the hoses (all clean), than pulled out the carb, disassembled it and cleaned it. It was spotless anyways. Then as i was putting it back together i realized the throttle wasnt even catching, so I pulled the cable out to find it was frozen. so i fixed that with some WD40 and about 2 hours of working it back and forth. Than i put everything back together and it started right up. it seemed to run fine, than took it down the road and about 3/4 twist of the throttle it bogs down. but at lower speeds it picks up fine. what could this be? i've heard a couple of things. People say its still junk in the carb, others say it could need a valve adjustment. what do you think? car insurance. Auto parts : Climate Control Dodge 2005. A/C Bracket Eagle 2006. HUMMER . How to Replace the Rear Brake Pads on a Ford MustangFord Mustangs with four-wheel disc brakes have self-adjusting rear brake calipers. The benefit of self-adjusting calipers is longer lasting brake pads. Every time you hit the brakes, you wear the pads slightly as a by-product of stopping the Mustang. While this leads to an eventual brake job, the rear brake pads last longer than brake shoes installed on older Mustangs. Anyone with a few hours of free time and basic auto repair experience can replace rear brake pads on a Ford Mustang. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Lug wrench 2 wheel chocks Floor jack 2 jack stands Drop pan Brake cleaner Socket set Caliper tool Torque wrench Step by Step : 1 Turn each of the rear lug nuts counterclockwise, using a lug wrench, until they are finger tight. Slap the wheel chocks against the front and rear tread of the left-front tire. 2 Pick up the back end of the Mustang with the floor jack. Lower it onto the jack stands, placed near the spring shackles on the axle. 3 Remove each of the rear lug nuts and both back tires by hand. 4 Set the drop pan below the Mustang's left-rear brake assembly. Rinse away all of the brake dust on the rotor can caliper with brake cleaner. 5 Take the left-rear caliper bolts out with a socket set. Lift the left-rear caliper out of the caliper bracket by hand. Remove and discard the old brake pads manually. 6 Wash the inside of the caliper thoroughly, especially the pistons and slides, using brake cleaner. Wipe a thick layer of white lithium grease onto the caliper slides. 7 Push the caliper pistons back into the left-rear caliper with your caliper tool. Set the new brake pads into the caliper by hand. 8 Set the caliper back into the caliper bracket manually. Bolt it in with the socket set. 9 Slide over to the Mustang's right-rear, and repeat Steps 4-8. Put the Mustang's back tires and lug nuts on by hand. Step by Step : 10 Lower the Mustang off the jack stands. Torque the rear lug nuts to 100 ft-lb, using the torque wrench. Tips & Warnings The lug nut torque may vary, depending on the year, wheels and engine of your Mustang. Check with your local Ford dealer's service department or local tire shop for proper torque specs for your specific Mustang.
HUMMER . How to Replace the Rear Brake Pads on My Silverado 2500The Chevy Silverado 2500 is a ¾-ton, mid-duty pickup truck. The 2500 has a larger, more substantial, brake system than the 1500 Silverado. The heavy-duty, four-wheel disc brake system is necessary to stop the truck with heavy loads in the bed. The brake pads are larger than those on the 1500 but wear at roughly the same rate. While there is no set interval for brake pad replacement, you should inspect them every time you rotate the tires and replace the back brakes when the pads fall below 3 mm in thickness. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Wheel chocks (2) Lug wrench Floor jack Jack stands (2) Drip pan Brake cleaner White lithium grease Socket set Caliper tool Torque wrench Step by Step : 1 Shove wheel chocks against the front and back of the Silverado 2500's left front tire. Turn all the rear lug nuts counterclockwise to loosen them with a lug wrench. 2 Lift the rear end of the Silverado 2500 with a floor jack. Support the rear end on jack stands placed under the rear axle. 3 Pull the rear lug nuts and back tires off the Silverado 2500 to access the back brakes. 4 Place a drip pan under the left rear brake rotor. Wash all the brake dust off the caliper and rotor with brake cleaner. 5 Unbolt the left rear caliper with a socket set. Remove the caliper from the mount by hand. Extricate the old brake pads and discard them. 6 Wash the inside of the caliper with brake cleaner, paying special attention to the pistons and slide pins. Lubricate the caliper slides with white lithium grease to prevent seizing. 7 Force the caliper pistons back into the caliper with a caliper tool. Remove the tool and immediately insert the new brake pads. 8 Set the caliper back into the mount and bolt it in with the socket set. 9 Move to the Silverado 2500's right rear and repeat Steps 4 through 8. Remount the back tires and lug nuts. Lower the truck off the jack stands with the jack. Step by Step : 10 Re-torque the lug nuts to 140 ft.-lbs. with a torque wrench.
